“They took off their shoes and stepped into the soft mud on bare feet. Together they pulled and pushed the little boat into the water.”
Threads – The Delicate Life of John Craske. Julia Blackburn.
From the Olive and George collection, drawing inspiration from the Norfolk Fishermen’s Gansey jumpers of the 19th and early 20th centuries, Sally is a nautically striped, women’s knit.
This piece takes its name from Sally Middleton, a Gansey knitter from Upper Sheringham. She was one of the rare knitters who not only knitted for the men in her family, but she also designed a Gansey for herself.
This Breton stripe has been knitted from left-over 100% Italian spun cotton in our Italian factory. It has a clean crew neck with one gold popper fastening at the back neck, it has slightly bell sleeves which pull in with a gentle gather just above the cuff to create a flattering sleeve shape. As with the best-selling “Chibbles” knit, I have used the raglan arm hole construction because it creates such a flattering, narrowing silhouette as the stripe continues over the shoulders and onto the back panel. All the stripes are beautifully aligned across the shoulders, side seams and sleeves. Worn tucked in or loose with jeans or shorts and a gold bracelet!
