April 15th is the celebration of International Microvolunteering Day creating awareness about the micro-volunteering concept and how simple bite-sized actions of individuals can make the world a better place.
At Generous APE we feel so passionate about the community that we live in, we state it as one of our values:
Empowering our community. Together we are the greater good. Climate crisis cannot be solved by individuals. The more we collaborate through sharing knowledge and experiences, the quicker and more effective we can solve and repair our relationship with the planet and the people.
In March we signed our first partnership with World Land Trust on the buy and acre scheme. But quite simply the World Land Trust couldn’t deliver half of what it does without the dedicated volunteer workforce who come out in rain or shine and take part in a whole range of activities across their portfolio of spaces. By putting local communities front and centre, they secure a future where people and planet both benefit from a protected landscape.
WLT work with The Conservation Volunteers (TCV). TCV was founded in the 50’s and supports communities to be stronger, working together to improve the places people live and tackle issues that matter to them.
TCV runs Green Gyms - fun and free outdoor sessions where you will be guided in practical activities such as planting trees, sowing meadows and establishing wildlife ponds. Unlike other conservation projects, the emphasis is very much on health and fitness – volunteers warm up and cool down in preparation for vigorous activities to suit all abilities. In fact, almost a third more calories can be burnt in some Green Gym sessions than in an average aerobics class!
Green Gym recently featured in an innovative study run by the University of Westminster for the BBC2 programme Trust Me I Am A Doctor. The study showed that Green Gym participants reported higher levels of well-being and lower levels of stress.
Join thousands of people across the UK transforming green spaces for nature and for people.
TCV have resumed selected outdoor group volunteering programmes. See what sessions are running by finding your local office. Together we can improve the places where we live and tackle issues that matter to us all,
Join in, feel good.
